Why is the discount applied message not displayed when the discount is combinable?

This preference used to make sense in the past, when the discount information was not displayed on the shopping cart page, to warn your customers that the discount will be applied at checkout.

In the following image we can see a cart page from an old theme, with no discount information, and the discount applied message:

But now, practically all themes display the discount information on the cart page, so the discount applied message isn't really necessary:

Now, suppose that you have configured several combinable discounts. According to Shopify's documentation, up to six discounts can be applied to a single order. In that corner case, six discount applied messages would be displayed on the cart page. This looks cluttered and redundant, given that these messages are unnecessary now that the discount information is clearly shown on the cart page:

For that reason, if the discounts applied to the cart are combinable, no discount applied message will be displayed. Consequently, these messages cannot be edited on the preferences pages either.
