General considerations about discounts and Shopify Markets

If you have enabled Shopify Markets and are already or have planned to use discounts in Frequently Bought Together, it's worth noting some critical considerations. These considerations are general because they are valid if you use a third-party discount app or create discounts manually.

First and foremost, there are some types of discounts that have pricing constraints, such as the 'Discount value' to be deducted in a 'Fixed amount' discount,

and the 'Minimum purchase amount',

It is important to remember that these pricing constraints are set in the default shop currency because Shopify will check these constraints against the prices in the default shop currency on checkout, regardless of whether the checkout is done in Euro, United States Dollar or any other currency.

Frequently Bought Together will offer a configured discount if and only if it can be safely applied on checkout, regardless of the market, so all the constraints are calculated in the shop currency.

Additionally, if you plan to set fixed prices, the behaviour regarding discounts is still more confusing and difficult to explain in some scenarios. We have tried to explain how the discounts available in Frequently Bought Together work so please refer to the articles linked below.
