How do I prevent recommending specific products?

In Frequently Bought Together you can configure products to not be displayed as recommendations for all other products. This is what we call Products excluded.

What can I use excluded products for?

We suggest using excluded products to avoid recommending certain products that you don't want to recommend for whatever reason. For instance, if you have some products that are mostly sold during Christmas but you don't want to recommend them during the summer season, you can exclude them during the summer sales campaign.

How can I prevent recommending specific products?

Frequently Bought Together offers two alternatives for configuring excluded products, by manually selecting the products you want to avoid recommending or by tagging them in the Shopify product editing page. Even though both configurations work equally well, we strongly recommend the former over the latter.

Selecting excluded products manually

That said, if you want to manually configure excluded products from the application user interface, just select the Recommendations tuning section from the navigation panel:

Go to Hiding options found at the bottom and click on the Configure products excluded button:

Initially, there are no excluded products configured so we can start adding the products of your preference simply by clicking on the Excluded a product from recommendation button,

and selecting the products in the product selector pop-up. You can check one or more products at the same time, speeding things up and minimizing the configuration effort. Once you are done, click on Add.

Finally, the list of selected products will be displayed so that you can continue managing them immediately.

Tagging excluded products

As we mentioned before, you can configure excluded products by tagging products with the exact text Hidden recommendation.

This tagging can be done in the Shopify product editing page:

The tagged excluded products are also displayed in the excluded products configuration page. This combined view is very convenient as long as it allows you to know exactly what products are not being recommended at a glance.
